Bronx Man Awarded $7 Million In Personal Injury Verdict
On June 18, a Bronx man was awarded $7 million in a personal injury verdict for a severe ankle injury he suffered due to a broken sidewalk valve. The verdict comes five years after the life-changing accident that left his ankle broken in three places, along with torn tendons and an extremely painful nerve disorder. The large verdict amount takes into account the fact that the plaintiff will likely be suffering from these injuries and related complications for the rest of his life, which will result in extremely high medical bills.
The victim was stepping out of a taxi when he planted his foot into an exposed gas valve outside of his apartment building on E. 196th St. in February 2013. His ankle shattered immediately and he was rushed to the hospital, where he stayed for a week. He would eventually need three different reconstructive surgeries.
