Jet Ski Accidents On The Hudson River
Over the weekend of July 14 – 15 two separate jet ski accidents took place on the Hudson River and as a result police have issued danger warnings. On Saturday, two individuals overturned their crafts in the water and someone from Rockland witnessed the people in distress and called authorities. The two people were able to be rescued without injury but one person was charged with operating a watercraft while intoxicated. According to authorities, on Sunday a group of three jet skiers flipped their crafts over in the water near the Yonkers City Pier. No injuries were reported but one man did have to be rescued. This comes after an accident in June where a 31-year-old Bronx man died after flipping his craft in the water and drowning.
Off-Duty Police Officer Shot In The Bronx
On Saturday, July 21, an off-duty police officer was driving in the Bronx when he was rear-ended near Sedgwick Avenue. The officer got out of his car, as did the people in the other vehicle when another car drove up to them. At this time the officer was beaten and shots were fired. The car that had driven up to the scene of the accident sped away and the officer was taken to the hospital for treatment of a leg wound. The NYPD has stated that this incident was not police related.
Garbage Truck Driver Found To Have Been Drinking Prior To Fatal Accident
On Saturday, August 11, a fatal accident occurred when a driver of a sanitation truck drank before driving and hit an Australian tourist, killing her. The driver was headed to a Bronx dump from a construction site in Greenwich Village and at around 4:45 pm swerved to avoid hitting an illegally parked vehicle but hit a 23-year-old bicyclist. The driver admitted to drinking two beers before getting into the vehicle and has been charged with drunk driving, driving while impaired, and operating a commercial vehicle while intoxicated.
