Bronx Motorcyclist Dies On Williamsburg Bridge
A Bronx motorcyclist who was speeding across the Williamsburg Bridge died early Thursday, 29, June 2017. The accident happened after he hit a lane separator and was thrown under the wheels of a passing SUV.
The 24-year-old motorcyclist was going toward Brooklyn and was crossing from the bridge’s outer lane into the inner lane when the accident happened. According to witnesses, speed definitely may have been a contributing factor in this accident as it appeared that the motorcyclist was racing another motorcyclist when he hit the lane separator.
The Jeep was unable to stop in time and ran over the biker. The biker was rushed to Woodhull Hospital where he later died. Although the driver of the Jeep was not at fault for this accident, he was charged with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle after police learned that his license had been suspended.
Police Officer Fatally Struck By Car
In Northville, New York, a part-time village police officer was killed while he was helping a motorist who had hit a deer. The accident happened soon after the officer’s shift had ended on July 3, 2017.
The police officer was hit as he was making his way towards the man who had hit a deer a little before 11 p.m. in Northampton on Route 30. No charges are set to be filed against the 25-year-old driver who hit the police officer.
Driver Falls Asleep And Crashes Into A Pole
A man from Queens was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital on Sunday, July 2, 2017, after an accident took place in Mattituck.
According to authorities, a 23-year-old man was driving a Ford Jeep and fell asleep at the wheel before he collided with a utility pole before 10 a.m. The driver was uninjured, but one of his passenger’s needed to be airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital with unspecified, non-life-threatening injuries.
There were other passengers in the car and one of them was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for a head injury and to monitor bleeding.
Motorcyclist Crashes Into Flatbed Truck In Westbury, Nassau Long Island
A crash that took place in Westbury, Nassau on Sunday morning July 2, 2017, killed a 20-year-old man. The motorcyclist was driving his 1999 Yamaha motorcycle heading west on Union Avenue when he crossed a red traffic signal and hit a flatbed truck. The truck was traveling south on Grand Boulevard.
The 20-year-old was transported to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, where hospital staff pronounced him dead. The truck driver did not suffer any injuries.
Both vehicles were impounded and an investigation is ongoing.
18-Year-Old In Critical Condition After A Highway Accident In Saratoga County
An 18-year-old is in critical condition after an accident took place on Route 29 when he crossed into the oncoming lane and hit a 2017 Freightliner semi-trailer head-on on Saturday, July 2, 2017.
Officers responded to the accident and found the teenager trapped in the car and he needed to be extricated. The semi-trailer’s driver was a 68-year-old man who was taken to Saratoga Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.
This accident is the latest crash on a stretch of road that is said to have too many accidents as it is. Residents are calling for the speed limit of 55 mph to be reduced.
