This week’s accident report includes a driver who crashed into a laundromat, as well as a drunk driver who drove into a backhoe parked at a construction site.

Four People Injured In A Backhoe Accident

Towards the end of August, four people were injured and one died in an accident involving a backhoe in the Bronx. According to the FDNY, the crash took place just before 7 p.m. on the Bruckner Expressway close to the exit for Country Club Road.
A Norwalk man died as a result of this accident and one man was arrested on drunken driving and vehicular manslaughter charges after the crash.

According to the New York City Police, the 30-year-old man who died was riding in a Nissan SUV that struck the back of a parked backhoe along the Bruckner Expressway. The driver of the Nissan SUV was charged with vehicular manslaughter, assault, criminal negligence, driving under the influence and for refusing to submit to a breath test.

The driver of the SUV reportedly lost control of the car while attempting to change lanes leading to hitting the backhoe that was parked at a construction site.

All four people in the car were transported to Jacoby Medical Center in the Bronx, where the 30-year-old man was pronounced dead.

Man Killed By A Hit-And-Run Driver

According to New York authorities, a man was struck and killed by a vehicle on September 4, 2017, while he was attempting to cross a parkway in a New York City neighborhood.

It is believed that a driver of a white SUV was going north on the Hutchinson River Parkway in the Bronx when it struck a pedestrian on Monday night. The SUV drove off without stopping. The unidentified man was taken to a nearby hospital by emergency services. He was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police were still searching for the driver as of Tuesday, September 5, 2017. The hit-and-run accident is being investigated by the New York City Police Department Collision Investigation Squad.

Multi-Vehicle Accident Leaves One Person Injured

In Staten Island, a multi-vehicle crash in Graniteville on Monday night left one person injured. The accident reportedly took place around 10 p.m. close to the intersection of Richmond Avenue and Victory Boulevard.

The person who had the most serious injuries was taken to Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton. It was not immediately clear as to what led to the multi-vehicle crash.

Holland Tunnel Crash Leaves Nine People Injured

On Sunday, September 3, 2017, nine people were injured in an accident that took place in the Holland Tunnel. The accident took place as a result of the car that was driving through the Tunnel and lost two of its tires.

According to a Port Authority spokesperson, the car was heading in the New York bound lanes when its tires “dislodged” in a one vehicle accident. This accident happened in the early hours of the morning and Port Authority Tunnel and Bridge Agents removed the car. Traffic was stopped briefly for 20 minutes.

SUV Crashes Into A Laundromat And Injures Six People

On Sunday September 3, 2017, an SUV driver crashed into a laundromat on Staten Island. The SUV crash injured six people and three of them were in serious condition.

The driver of the SUV was an elderly driver whom authorities believe accidentally put his car in reverse as he tried to park.

Surveillance cameras caught the whole incident that showed the 74-year-old man slowly backing out of a parking spot. He most likely stepped on the gas while he was still in reverse and crashed his car straight through the laundromat’s front glass window. His entrance led him to hit people and tables.

Victims of this incident were found pinned between the back bumper and the wall of the laundromat. The driver of the car appeared dazed and confused. The car hit tables, metal, and people.

This incident is being investigated and at least none of the injuries were life-threatening.
