Two pedestrians were struck in separate accidents that happened in the Bronx this week.Other accidents that took place in Greater New York include a hit-and-run driver who caused two serious crashes and fled.
Accidents That Happened In The Bronx
Pedestrian Struck By SUV
A 53-year-old man who was walking across East Tremont Ave. close to Saint Peters Ave in the Bronx, was struck and killed by an SUV on Thursday, July 13, 2017.
According to police, a 2000 Lincoln Navigator going west crashed into the man around 9.50 p.m. He died on the scene of the accident. The driver of the Lincoln has not been charged as police sources believe the crash was accidental.
72-Year-Old Woman Hit By Car As She Crossed The Street
Another pedestrian accident took place in the Bronx on Thursday afternoon. The 72-year-old pedestrian died after she was hit by a car while trying to cross a street in the Bronx.
According to authorities, a black Honda turning left struck the woman who was in the crosswalk on Broadway in Kingsbridge. The woman was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital with head injuries soon after the accident happened at 1.20p.m. Unfortunately, she later died at 5.55 a.m. on July 12, 2017.
The Honda driver remained at the scene of the accident and has not been charged.
Greater New York Area Accidents
Train Derails At Penn Station Again
On Thursday night, July 13, 2017, another New Jersey Train derailed at Penn Station. The accident took place a few days before extensive track work was scheduled to begin at the transit hub.
This accident affected close to 180 people who were on the North Jersey Coast Line train from Long Branch as it neared the station and then the slow-speed derailment occurred at 9 o’clock.
Fortunately, there were no injuries that were reported however, commuters were outraged.
Sherrif’s Looking For Hit-And-Run Driver In Bergen, N.Y.
Deputies are looking for the driver of a sedan who is believed to have been involved in two crashes on Friday, July 7, 2017.
According to authorities, the Genesee County 911 dispatch center was informed of a vehicle rolled over on Route 33. A rolled over pickup truck and a crashed minivan were found close by. The sedan is believed to have dangerously passed the minivan and then proceeded to hit the pickup. The minivan driver most likely swerved in an effort to avoid the crash and then went off the road, hit a utility pole, then crashed into a tree.
Investigators stated that the driver of the sedan left the scene of the accident after he went off the road in the first crash.
The driver of the minivan needed to be freed from the vehicle and taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester with a leg injury. Five more people who were in the minivan were taken to Strong Hospital with minor injuries. Two people from the pickup truck were not hurt.
Sheriff’s deputies are on the lookout for a white male driver who was possibly driving the blue sedan with damage to the front on the driver side, and the driver’s side of the car.
Alexander N.Y. Teenager Thrown Off Of Pickup Truck
A 17-year-old is said to have lost control and thrown from his pickup truck in Alexander, according to the Genesee County Sheriff’s office.
The accident took place after the truck crossed the center line of W. Bethany Rd, and then over-corrected leading the driver to flip a few times. It is not very clear why the truck crossed over to begin with. Investigators stated that the vehicle rolled at least once and continued to do so until it stopped. As the vehicle was rolling the driver was ejected out of the car and the truck caught fire.
The teenager was flown to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester by paramedics in serious condition. He later died on Monday, July 10, 2017. It is believed that he was not wearing a seat belt when the accident happened.
